Winter: A Season to Reflect

December 18, 2025

Are you living your best life?  What a great question.  Winter for me is a time to "mirror up" with questions like this.  Reflection is a unique human characteristic.  There are some thoughts to ponder and action steps that can help set the mood.

First, take an inventory.  As you probably know, one of the best things we can do financially is a thorough analysis of our current position, consisting of net worth and cash flow statements.  The same exercise can be completed in all other areas of our lives.  Writing the facts from our lives is a great place to start the reflection process.

Next, consider a glimpse into the past.  For me, I have many journals from years ago.  Reading about my life from twenty years ago usually offers an interesting perspective.  The exercise typically reveals the relentless thief called the passage of time.

One action I took years ago is to write down the seven things I absolutely know to be true.  A great spiritual exercise.  They tell me as we travel life our "Truth List" usually gets smaller.  So far my original seven are holding up pretty well.  What are your seven?

Consulting our loved ones is a good mirror to put in front of us.  A note of caution, those who know us best can offer brutally honest feedback into our lives.  Sometimes the comments provide a reflective thought that couldn't come into our life another way.  Here is a question to ask, "Do you think we are living our best life?"

As you work the reflection process some patterns usually begin to emerge.  Those patterns are like a thread to begin pulling and can easily lead to some productive shifts.

As Father Time marches on, take a few moments this winter to set him down and listen.  We are often surprised by what we hear!
